VARAC TO CELEBRATE THE FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF FORMULA ONE IN CANADA
The first Canadian Grand Prix was held at Mosport Park August 27, 1967. To
celebrate that historic occasion VARAC will be hosting a Formula One reunion as
the feature of their 28th Annual Vintage Racing Festival June 22-24, 2007.
A number of Historic Formula One cars have already expressed an interest in taking part, and it is anticipated that at least two of the drivers from that first race will be in attendance. In addition to the Formula One cars and drivers, officials, workers, and the drivers of cars from the 1967 support races
will all be taking part . A display marquee will be set up displaying posters, programs, photographs and other memorabilia from that first race. It will also be a focal point where people can meet, renew acquaintances, and rehash old
stories.
In "The Day" Mosport was one of the favorite tracks on the Grand Prix circuit
and is only one of two tracks to host not only Formula One, but Indy Cars, FIA World Endurance Championship events, and Can-Am Races. For the present owners of the Historic Formula One cars this is a "don't miss" opportunity, especially when you consider that two weeks after the Mosport event the Historic Grand Prix cars will be at Watkins Glen and a week later at Mont Tremblant. This is a fantastic opportunity to drive these cars on three of the most historic F1 circuits in North America in the space of a month.

I saw the thoroughbreds at Kyalami in 1999. Fantastic. Grew up around motorsport from 1967 east London GP to 1994, when GPs lost there way.(in my humble opinion)
Would like to find your calender for 2007 to watch some races overseas with my younger brother, AJ, who is active in local motorsport.

Hi everybody - I was going to drop a line just after I saw Misano race in Italy, but find the time only now.
What can I say ? What I saw in the pits in Misano was ALMOST better than naked girls.... wonderful atmosphere, cars always shiny and the noise of the DFV brought me back to mid 70's, when I used to "drag" my father to see the races at Monza, since the days of Lotus 78 and Mario Andretti...Just GREAT...Hope TGP will keep an italian date to give me this opportunity at least once a year. Ciao to Oliver and to all TGP fans

I'm a F1 fan since 1971 , but the first GP I saw "alive" , was Jarama '78. I've follow all the races since 71 , by newspapers , by TV and magazines since that time, and I obviously still do, but to see the "old cars" in the TGP series is like to back in time , and is fabulous.
I've been in Estoril ever since Your first visit , and I hope to go there for many years to see those "magic" cars , even if there are not so many cars from the '70 as I would like to see , because as everyone wants to win, they loke for more recent cars but I consider TGP a fantastic Championship !!
Gary Critcher, England
I first started going to watch the TGP in 1995, it's still as good !!

Can't wait to see TGP again this season. Last year's Silverstone Historic was excellent, and I couldn't believe it when we could get into the garages and walk amongst the cars. Plus I got to see the Lotus 80 race along my usual faves of the JPS Lotuses and the Williams FW07s and FW08s.
My Lotus pictures can be found at http://www.jpslotus.org

In August, I visited Classic Team Lotus. Lotus was my favourite F1 team, so a dream came through. A month later I travelled to Brands Hatch to see the A1 GP and the TGP was a part of the race program that day. I have enjoyed it enormously. Memories of the 70's and 80's came back to me. I hardly can't wait to see the 2006 calender....! Thanks to all of you. Regards from the Netherlands. Hope to see you soon
Mark Oliver, England
To all at TGP Racing. I took my two boys to see A1 Grand Prix at Brands. Spur of the moment thing. Once there I purchased the programe and was blown away to see the old F1's event. Took me back 30 years when I was the same age as my kids watching the same cars.Special thanks to Ean Pugh for allowing my kids to sit the Brabham BT34. The kids are still talking about the day still! Great to see the old favourites on the track. Credit to people who are keeping them there
Christian Gaense, Germany
It was a wonderful season with TGP racing. Thanks to all the drivers and teams for their enthusiasm to drive these fantastic race cars on a very high level in historic motorsport. Special thanks to the TGP organisation, particularly Oli and Stuart for their work and support. Hope we see you all in 2006! Have a good time! Cheers Christian

I've been at Estoril every single year that we had TGP races, and each year more fun and enjoyment for us. We support Rodrigo of course (he is a fan of our SPORTING fc,)but all the others are excelent. I have been at the paddock the full weekends and everybody was extraordinary. Keep coming, please. Congratulations to every single member of TGP for the great show.
Paul Morris, England
Very much enjoyed the race at Brands Hatch in September as part of the A1GP event. The sound of the DFVs and the Ferrari Flat 12 through the woods on the GP circuit was brilliant!
Christian Gaense, Germany
What for action. This was the race with the most pirouettes i ever see in this series. ...but the winner was the same like the first two races, Christian Glaesel - Brabham BT 49D. Thanks to the drivers for their employment and also thanks to the zandvoort circuit media department for the superb quality in the live streaming. With this i could see everything (qualifying, warm-up, race) from TGP and the other series. See you in Germany!
Christian Gaense, Germany
2nd Victory in 2005 for German TGP Driver Christian Glaesel in his Brabham BT 49D.
We have seen a impressive starting grid in the heat of italy, exciting race action and a very interesting race program. What will you more for a historic race event... Thanks to the Monza Organisers, to Oli and all the very friendly people from TGP F1 Series.
Christian Gaense, Germany
"I would say this was a great start in a great season! On a large grid we have seen fantastic cars from the best years of formula 1 in racing history. Racing-fan what will you more... Thanks and all the Best!
See you in Monza!

Wow - this site was communicated to me from a work buddy. In my
humble opinion, this was (and now is) the "real world"
of F1. We had real drivers DRIVING "real" F1's - as opposed
to the "remote control" genre as we have today. I have
seen most of these cars racing when South Africa had it's Grand
Prix at Kyalami (the old circuit). Browsing through the various
cars - car 69,
the Surtees TS9 that was driven by John Love.
The crash referred to in the "Cars" link that JL had -
well I witnessed that prang - I was seated at the open stands where JL "lost it" at very high speed
and thus witnessed the whole saga - very dramatic. I have a picture
of the aftermath of this prang somewhere in one of my scrapbooks - will dig it out.
The
article also referred to the Domingo brothers purchasing "the
wreck" but were not "allowed to race at Kyalami (being
Indian)..." Not so, the Domingo brothers were very active participants at Kyalami and raced
the series country wide. In fact, South Africa was the only country
that had
F1 as a national series. Drivers such as Dave Charlton, John Love,
Ian Scheckter, Eddie Keizan etc mixed it together with F5000's -
great days.
The South African GP was usually the third race in the 70's (after
the two S/American rounds) and was preceded by 2 weeks of tyre testing
- so we used to have the "GP Circus" for a period of at
least 3 weeks - AND, one could talk to the drivers, team owners
(I shared a six pack with John Surtees during the 1976 tyre testing
sessions) and mechanics - F1 as it should be as opposed to "Bernie
Pty Ltd" as it is today.

What will a Race Heart more!?! My third TGP Race in this year and
I can say after every TGP Race...fantastic Cars, exciting Races
and a
very friendly Organisation :), Drivers and their Teams. That`s Motorsport
as I like it..!
Thanks for all and we see you in Brno.

Last Sunday I visited Zolder for the 2nd time with this event! It
is incredible that the public is able to come in the pitbox &
taste the F1 cars so purely! Unbelievable that everything was allowed!
i was happy like a little boy to be able to touch the cars & to see them in real!
The race was incredible, I cheered like a little kid! I want to
thank TGP just for existing & I want to thank Zolder for being
so nice to their audience!
Last year I saw incredilble action from a Walter Wolf car &
this year I witnessed crashing Williams cars in the chicane! I love
the Tyrrells & the Arrows! & the old Lotus cars, the March & Osella's....I
think it is the only way to see them nowadays.
I really hope to see the P34 one day, but I
understand it isn't racing anymore? I hope to see your TGP races
till the end of days & I cannot thank you enough. I suffered
from chronic goosebumps & my smile reached to my ears!!! The
old F1 cars are the most beautiful impressive cars in the world
to me! starting with Tyrrell 001 & the gold leaf lotus, till
Camel lotus 1987, after that they became more & more ugly but
the cars today are pretty again, but nothing beats historic F1 cars. TGP,
thanks a million times to give me the oppurtunity to see them in
real, to be able to touch it & to see them race! Thank you!
Great to hear from you Steven! Thanks for
your kind words. Glad you enjoyed yourself and hope to see you next
year!
Steven, England
I
read at the Zandvoort calendar that in September they wanted to
get every F1-car that ever won there with the drivers those who
are still alive. In this forum Ii read TGP won't be there. Does
that mean that this event will be cancelled ?
TGP
can't be there but the event, as far as we know, is still going
ahead with individual cars.
Christian Gaense, Germany
The
Brno Event is a National Czech Republic Race Event plus TGP F1 and
SSC. The SSC "Supersprint Challenge" is a very interesting
and fast Racing Series with modern Open Sportscars (200-600 Bhp)
and Formula Cars (F3, Formula 3000).Also the Czech Endurance Series has a very high Quality
(with DTM Mercedes CLK, STW Audi A4 usw.) Hope
the "package" is reasonable for you :) and you make the
trip to Brno...
John McCaul
As keen followers of TGP, my son, brother in law and I enjoyed our
weekend at Zolder very much. As usual it was wonderful to be able
to talk to drivers who always seemed prepared to make time for us
- so different from the modern scene!I
have two questions. Firstly, it was difficult to follow the commentary
in Flemish but the race seemed longer than 15 laps. Have you seen
the light and extended the distance?
Secondly,
can you tell us what else will be on the programme at Brno? As much
as we love TGP, we would only go if the whole "package" was reasonable.
Dear John,
Thanks
for your kind comments on TGP and we're happy you enjoyed Zolder.
Race distances are determined by the circuits and are dependant
upon the time constraints they have during the day. TGP regulations
stipulate that the race must be between 55-75km long. The
Brno timetable has yet to be finalised. As soon as it is published
we will post it on the 'Race Data' sections of this website. The
event is a Czech Republic national meeting and should feature their
Endurance Touring Car series, the Skoda Octavia Cup plus others.

Hello,
I am a Formula 1 fan from Germany. I was with my family on weekend
in Zolder. It was great. I want to thank the TGP.It gives Formula
1 fans exactly the same buzz as in former times.

I
have a question: Why are the most expensive cars like the Ferrari
not coming to circuit Zolder in Belgium, but are there at the Nürburgring?
I have been to TGP several times and also today but I didn't see
the Ferrari present at Zolder. I have seen the expensive cars at
the Nürburgring GP course last year though - I wonder if this
is because the Nürburgring GmbH has lots more of cash and can
pay more so the expensive cars are present ? Please explain.
BTW the BRM P160 was lonely today as being a sixties car - I missed
the Cooper T86. I walked my ass off in the woods of Zolder but it
was a damn fine day even if there was lots of rain.
Dear
Tim
TGP
drivers do not race for money - they race for the thrill of driving
their cars and racing against other skilled enthusiasts. The fact
of the matter is that if a Ferrari gets damaged, blows an engine
or likewise, it is a lot more expensive and harder to rebuild than
some of the Cosworth engined cars.Walter
Burani drove his Ferrari at Monza last year and we hope his son,
Andrea, will be competing with us at some point in the future.Glad
you enjoyed the Zolder meeting
Tim
If
any of the teams have any used rear tyres they need to dispose of,
or 'recycle' I would be most happy to take a few off their hands.

what for a fantastic Series... I have seen in the last Years many

an official World Championship Series. It look`s very good... :)!!
F. Hoppenbrouwers
May there be a race this year at Zandvoort?
Dear
Mr Hoppenbrouwers
We
did hope to come to Zandvoort in September and were very mch looking
forward to bringing Coswroth DFV powered F1 cars back to the spot
of Jim Clark's & Cosworth's first DFV victory.We
had planned a celebration of the event, with Cosworth displays,
F1 displays and some great racing. Zandvoort circuit appealed to
the local
government to lift regulations concerning the noise levels allowed
at Zandvoort but the local authorities did not see things their
way.Therefore,
TGP will not be able to come to Zandvoort in 2004. We hope to come
at some point in the future.

Dear TGP, I enjoyed the race Monday 3rd May
at Donington - my first experience. However where was Tyrell P34?
My partner was most disapponted - her favourite car!
Dear
Chris
Thanks for your support. Mauro Pane was notable by his absence in
the 6-wheeled Tyrrell P34 over the weekend. Entered into the race
and highly publicised in the build up to the race, the cars
owner, TGP driver Pietro Ratti, has decided that the car, class
winner at Jarama in the previous round, will run at the Monaco historic
on the 18th May and then return to Mr Rattis museum in Italy,
being too expensive to be raced. Mauro
Pane and his father Marcello, who prepare cars for Mr Ratti and
other Italian drivers, were at Donington to support the championship
and both were visibly upset that after much hard work getting the
P34 into race winning condition, Mauro would not be able to compete
any longer in the championship. An opportune time then for Martin
Stretton to make an appearance with the suggestion that he may well
be able to compete in the Simon Bull owned P34 at one or two TGP
events later in the year. It
is a real shame you didn't get to see the P34. Everyone loves the
car and let's hope we get to see it racing again.
Herbert Schnell
Which chassis number
does Piero Ratti's Copersucar F5A have ? I have had number 3 for
some years now. Chris Perkins has number 2 which is in a museum
and number 1 is owned by Ben Liebert.
Dear
Herbert
Pietro Ratti drivers Fitipaldi F5A Chassis 02"A". If you still have chassis #3, you should come out and race it with
TGP! If you need any questions answered, please contact us at the
Event Management office.

With regard to the calendar for this year, can you please confirm
that the new Zolder round is a definite fixture, as we are intending
to spectate there? Also , do you have an idea of the approximate
timetable over the three days of the meeting? Lastly, is the Donington
round only over 2 days, as I notice the Dates quoted are May 2/3.
Dear
Peter
TGP
will certainly be at Zolder in 2004 on June 18-20 and we look forward
to welcoming you there. We're all very excited about going back
to such an historic track.Regarding
the Donington weekend, the timetable is correct. The Saturday has
been monopolised by the HGPCA fraternity as a celebration of their
anniversary. This means TGP will have three sessions on track on
the Sunday (Free practice and 2 qualifying sessions) plus the usual
timetable of warm-up and race taking place on the Bank Holiday Monday.
At present, the provisional timetable shows the race at 14.00hrs
Monday 3rd May.
